While sitting on the back patio a few weeks ago, a teeny tiny visitor zipped past us. I gasped and squealed all at once to realize there were hummingbirds in the vicinity. I hopped online the next day and found this super cute hummingbird feeder on Amazon that is made of a glass Mason Jar.
How cute is this? |
When it arrived at the house, I was anxious to whip up some nectar for the little fellas and see if it would attract even more birds. I boiled 1 cup of white granulated sugar with 4 cups of water on the stove, let it cool for a few minutes and ladled it into the jar with a soup ladle. I couldn’t find my kitchen funnel and this worked out perfectly!
Soup’s Up! |
I filled the jar up to just below the neck. I then screwed the top pieces on, took it outside and flipped it over – resulting in sugar water down my arm and onto the patio. Make sure you take the feeder outdoors before you do this or you’re in for a sugary mess! I hung it on a shepherd’s hook near our grape arbor and by that evening, I was watching hummingbirds out of the kitchen window! Alas, every time I go to take a picture, they scurry off as quickly as they arrived, but, I’m determined to catch one in action!
