The holidays are upon us and while we dig our Artificial Trees out of our storage units, attics or basements, many of us find the tree damaged and not up to the task of holding our ornaments or lighting up our home. Before you go to toss that tree, though, here are some GREAT DIY Upcycles you could try!

The idea for this DIY came from the Welcome to The Woods Instagram Page (You can find her IGTV Tutorial Here).

I was so in to the idea of not only updating my outdoor Holiday and Winter Decor with this great project, but, saving discarded Plastic Trees from heading to the Dump is a major bonus.

Supplies Needed:

Deconstruct Your Artificial Tree

Artificial trees come in many shapes, sizes and configurations. The one that was repurposed on Welcome to the Woods came in large separate pieces that could be easily wired together.

The trees I gathered up from local families, unfortunately, didn’t come apart as simply.

The best way I found to get these branches out of their hinges, is to wedge my needle nose pliers in & pull the “J” part of the branch apart.

Then, the branch should just slide out.

Get Creative!

Here are a few of the Upcycled Tree Crafts I’ve done in the past couple of days.

Mini Trees in Planters

These little buggers look SO cute on my front patio and flanking the garage doors! They’re weather proof, adorable with or without twinkle lights, and incredibly simple to put together.

Take your disassembled branches, bundle together, and wrap those puppies up with some floral wire or zip ties. You can form and shape these trees as fat and fluffy, or as tall and skinny as you’d like. When you have your tree shaped and formed to your liking, simply “plant” it in your pot. This was a great way to re-use all the planters that usually are scattered amongst my flower beds and patio space. I plan on making so many more of these to leave up all Winter long!

Garden Snowman

One of the trees I picked up the other day for this upcycling project was a White Tree and I knew instantly that I wanted to make a little Snowman for the Flower Bed.

I made this little fella the same way I did the Trees in the Planters. I bundled up bunches of branches and wired them together, but, instead of fluffing the branches out, I rounded them in to create a ball. I made three of these balls in three different sizes, stacked them up, and added a Ribbon for a Scarf. I was able to use the bottom metal pieces to “plant” him into the ground in the Flower Bed.

Table Wreath

This one was a quick little project while I was cleaning up the dinner table. I decided it was time to update the Pumpkin and Autumn Leaf table scape that we’ve had for the past two months. I took a Silver charger and decorated it with my favorite scented candle, some “Snow Balls”, loose pieces of greenery from the artificial tree and some Dollar Tree Vase Filler. In about 5 minutes, I had this super cute centerpiece!

Next up on my Artificial Tree Project List, I have some more planter boxes I’d like to decorate as well as some garland and door wreaths I’d like to create! What do you think of this idea? Would you decorate your home with upcycled Artificial Trees? Let me know in the comments.
