DIY Hand Painted Fourth of July Flag Shirt
Another holiday, another last minute holiday shirt for the kiddo. Whoops! The inspiration for this one comes from a super cute handprint flag art project I found on Things to Remember and Share. I love how simple and toddler friendly the design is and thought it would look GREAT in our Family Photos.
I bought two white t-shirts from Hobby Lobby, anticipating we’d need a back up, and sure enough, our first attempt at the blue hand print was a bit squishy and muddled. We rolled with it, and did a second shirt with handprint “Fireworks.” He can wear one tonight to Fireworks and one another for Independence Day!
I cut two pieces of foam board to slip inside the shirts. (Pro-Tip, 1/4″ foamboard can be found at the Dollar Tree!) Then I painted my Kiddo’s hand with Acrylic Paint, like a crazy person. Miracle of Miracles, though, he didn’t immediately a) put the hand in his mouth b) wipe the hand through his hair c) rub it all over Momma. Success!!
I got the pretty blue handprint on the flag shirt, and then we added some extra red & blue handprints to the fireworks shirt. I used a 1″ flat brush to paint on the stripes of the flag shirt, and voila. We have two adorable and festive shirts for the Holiday. I left them on the patio to dry during nap-time and when he woke up, we had a Fourth of July Fashion Show!
