The need for organization to help a household run smoothly is paramount. The need for organization in a household where there are people working from home, schooling from home, and still trying to RUN a home is critical. Piles begin accumulating and before you know it, a bill or important school paper gets lost in the mix. Introducing a mail organizer was a huge help for our household, and making it a cute rustic piece didn’t hurt!

For this project you’ll need the following:

Building a DIY Rustic Mail Organizer

  1. Assemble Box

Using your Corner Clamps (I love these that I used to build my Front Porch Table and Rustic Pallet Wood Table) join your two 1″ x 3″ x 13″ pieces to your two 1″ x 3″ x 2.5″ pieces. Use Glue and either 1.5″ Brads or Finishing Nails to secure the box.

  2. Trace your Bottom

Lay your box on top of your 11″ x 14″ piece of artists backing and trace around the outside. Use a saw to carefully cut out this bottom piece.

  3. Attach Bottom

Secure the bottom to the box with Glue and 1.5″ Brads or Finishing Nails.Bottom of Box

  4. Cut Backing (optional)

If you want to add a backing piece to your Inbox, you’ll need to cut out a piece from your remaining 11″ x 14″ panel. Lay your box across the bottom of the panel and using a straight edge, determine how wide and tall your back panel needs to be. Cut out the piece carefully with a saw.Backing Cut Lines

  5. Attach Backing to Box (optional)

  6. Hanging Hardware

I can’t recommend these No Nail Sawtooth Hangers enough! They’re my go to when hanging wooden pieces of art or frames. You simply hammer the hanger into the center of the piece and hang it on the wall. Attach your hanging hardware to the box portion of the backing for stability.hanging hardware

This was a super simple project that is great for any beginner and only took me about an hour. I spray painted mine white and roughly sanded it to give it a chippy rustic appearance.
